On July 23, 2002 at Ya Ya Bayou Brewhouse downtown, after more than two years of dedicated commitment, the New
Millennium Group's (NMG) Walk Buffalo Project released the updated Walk Buffalo Tour Book. Mayor Masiello
joined the NMG’s Walk Buffalo Project to celebrate the release of the full-color fourth
edition.
Norm Bishara, NMG Walk Buffalo Project Chair, said “The value of the New Millennium Group's championing of the tour book is
that it is now ensured a wide distribution that will help improve the City's image and promote all the great architectural jewels that Buffalo has to
offer.”
Walk Buffalo is a wonderful way for both visitors and native Western New Yorkers of all backgrounds to learn about the rich history and architecture
that Downtown Buffalo has to offer. Walk Buffalo is the popular free 2.5-mile self-guided walking tour
of Downtown Buffalo. The tour, which begins at the Market Arcade, 617 Main Street, is laid out in the Walk
Buffalo Tour Book. Walkers simply follow the 28 Blue Buffalo Markers on the sidewalks along the route.
“The Walk Buffalo is a marvelous tribute to the grand heritage and bright future of this region and is
a significant asset for local historic and cultural tourism efforts,” stated Jan Hohl, NMG Downtown Action Group Chair.
The Walk Buffalo Project was an initiative of the NMG’s Downtown Action Group. This collaborative effort was the culmination of an estimated
3,700 hours of volunteered time doing research, writing, graphic work, and
fundraising. This full color version has more anecdotes and sites than previous editions and features the
brilliant photography of Andy Olenick, the creator of the popular large format
book Classic Buffalo.
